Knocked Up

Pondered by = Christine =

Few years ago, Judd Apatow’s comedy The 40 Year Old Virgin surprised everyone by hitting the box office. In this movie, the lines are sharp - there are parts that smacks you right on the spot.

Though the storyline is quite predictable but I'm biased with Katherine Heigl. However, it is weird to see her in movies. It was just a one note performance.

This movie will belong to those that you just need to watch once and paying cinema ticket price is not worth it. You can wait for the DVDs to be out.

Bangkok Jam

Pondered by = Christine =

Bangkok Jam is not only a cozy but also stylishly decorated restaurant with very friendly staff and surprisingly yummylicious food at a very, very affordable prices!

Though they serve more of a Thai fusion food rather than pure thai food, they did it well! Some of my favourites are Duck Curry, Black Olive rice with Thai Ice Tea. I hv to admit not all items on the menu is promising. As peculiar as the dish sounds, my disappointment came from the Thai Royal burger, especially when I was very intrigued initially.

Too bad they don't hv a website. I would love to give a link here to share with you all!

881

Pondered by = Christine =

881 is the first musical movie from Singapore. It's the best local show I hv watched so far!

Being a huge fan on musical, I luv this one in particular, even if the locals sneered at the mention of the movie! It was released on 27th Aug 07 and it's still screening to this date. And of course, with all the praises of this movie, now that I mention 881 to my colleagues, we would ended up singing, "Ji rang, Ji phua ...."

This movie opened up my eyes to the world of Getai, a series of concerts performed for spirits during the seventh lunar month in various estates around Singapore. It has become a sub-culture of sorts and the neighbourhood heartlands are fertile grounds for entertainment such as these. It's like this other world that I never know of but hv been existing all along!

I'm glad I watched this movie!!!

Hairspay

Pondered by = Christine =

If you luv Grease and you luv Chicago, Hairspray is DEFINITELY for you!

I luv John Travolta's talent - both in acting and singing. No matter how many times I watch this show, I don't understand how does he swift his body to and fro so femininely, with those lumps of fake fats.

Not to mention that I was awed by Queen Latifah's elegance, just by her presence. No wonder there is a "Queen" to her name, hehe!

And of course, how can we forget the new star, Nikki Blonsky, that has impressed us so deep.

I can keep going and going ... Bottom line, is I luv this show! A lot !!!!

So, I guess, you won't be surprised when I tell you that for the next few days, I would hum their songs and greets my room every morning with an open arms, "Good morning Singaporeeeee..."

A bus conversation

Pondered by = Christine =

Bumped into a colleague after work and had the usual boring not-too-personal conversation. It's amazing how much we can crap about the moon and the sky each and every day.

I doze off when she kept yakking about all the bus rides that she ever take in Singapore. She can go onto the details of the duration, the ambience (since when does a bus hv ambience???) and blah, blah, blah ... I "dozed" off already until she reminds me the simplest thing in life that we often forget - Being Grateful.

She started to tell me vividly her experience in one of those 'pregnant' train in Bombay, where she literally stands on one feet for the whole trip. Everyone is pushing everyone and everything around them all the time. Those that are hanging out by the very edge are doing everything they can to not fall on the tracks. These accidents are very common.

So, what are we to complain about buses in Singapore even if it is packed (Thanks to those who just refuse to move in further!) each and every morning? At least, you are in air conditioned!

I had tried to write this post a few times but find myself speechless in the end. I hv come to learnt that the most awful feeling is not able to cry. When Flappy lie on the bottom of the bowl perfectly still on one side of its body, I felt emotionless. Not sad, not happy, not devastated, not thrilled. Just emotionless.

I wanted to cry - very, very much but I can't. Just stood there and stared at Flappy. The next few days, zebra nagged and nagged of how gross it is (I now realized it really is gross!) to leave the 'corpse' lying there. She was nice enough to let me do the closure myself but only on the third day, I was ready.

Finally, pouring Flappy out, I cried like a bawling baby. Face wet, vision blurred, throat dried. But it felt good because I know that I can finally move on. Life has its beginning and its ends. And I am truly learning that death in any form is just part of the circle of life.

Oh well, I still hv my e-Flappy here in my blog! =)

= Flappy's first fight =
* Due to our amateurism in video tapping, you may hv to till yr head to yr left 90 degrees.

* It is my pride to say that Flappy (on the right) is fighting with all its might with Ying Yang Beng (on the left) but pls watch closely with how "mightily" YYB is fighting back. This is hilarious!

* I was being told that this video taken from a camera can not be uploaded to the youtube and it's better to use my fren's mobile to take the shots. Boy, what was I thinking !? Typing it makes me feel even more ridiculous ...

The Magic Flute

Pondered by = Christine =

Director : Julie Taymor

Cast : Ying Huang, Erika Miklosa, Matthew Polenzani

For the first time in Asia (except Japan), cinema goers can watch filmed operas in high definition (HD) digital formal in a Goldn Village VivoCity, an art that goes hand in hand with technology. And this would my first!

I was excited as the songs go to its peak but also disappointed as the camera angles, especially close-ups, gives you the visibility of the back end works or flaws that are not usually seen in live operas, where you are feets away.

The Magic Flute, an English-language version of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. I initially thought it's just an opera that uses Mozart's music. But no! Mozart wrote the original opera, in German, for a theater located just outside Vienna and now, it amuses audiences from all walks of life.

As entertaining as it sounds, I was glad it's sung in English with English subtitles (hehe!) 'coz there are moments that I can't make out some of the words and when I did, the whole meaning sounds hilarious.

On the note of hilarious, if politely I hv to put it, the costumes are very 'out of the box'. Its fabrication folds at all sort of weird angles and in all kinds of shapes you can ever think of. Perhaps, it's because I deal with normal gmt day in and day out and fail to appreciate such art, especially when it's designed by the director herself - Julie Taymor.

Honestly, that really didn't matter (although I hv to admit that at times, the sight AND the shapes are distracting) because the vocals are superb! Pitch perfect, totally awed by it.

Nevertheless, I luv the fact that there is a mix of all characters from fairy and elegant like to comic and earthly. My favourite one is Erika Miklosa, the Queen of the Night. She You can feel her soul from the expression via her eyes.

= My Favourite Scene =

As zebra and I youtube this, we stumble over Diana Damrau, who's even more powerful! Her anger and desperation just leapt out of the screen!!

Pitstop Cafe

Pondered by = Christine =

Though I hvn't been to all the games cafe in Singapore but I hv set my heart on Pitstop.

Its ambiance is cozy and service is friendly - always there to help. I particularly love the walls, where it's fully decorated with pictures of Pitsop gamers and their comments! And of course, how can we forget the most important thing - the toilet is clean!

They hv a variety of games and they are very well maintained. Although other game cafes hv much more variety but either the pieces seems to come from stone age era or it's just simply lost.

I hv always enjoy my time here and had lotsa, lotsa fun - even my cheeks ache from laughing!!!
