BBQ at Grandeur 8

Pondered by = Christine =

Had a great time in the BBQ tonite.

I'm really not sure why Singaporeans BBQ are at nite, as I'm so used to the Aussie way. By the beach, with your shades on and walking on the sand. But then again, you won't see auntie-aunties in Aussie hold umbrella on a sunny day.

There were so much food mostly (even when there's 16 people) because there wasn't much planning who bring what. But hey, who's complaining? We had 2 types of curry, 3 types of chicken wings, 2 types of Otah, stingray, prawns, black pepper crabs, bee hoon, lamb chops, beef and sausages. And of course, fruits - papaya and watermelon, marshmallow, gummy bears, naans - plain and cheese, 3 flavours of Doritos and salads.

I would lie if I was not enjoying the sight that our managers, director and even ex-director is working their arse off by fanning those BBQ goodies while smoke is in their face and sweat rolling down their cheeks. Alrite, I know I'm mean and yes, I did help (after enjoying that sight, hehe), ok? It's just that you don't get this kinda moments in the office very often.

It was a very good outing, though the place is quite hot. There are some awkward moment when I realized I wear the same tee as my ex-boss, only that his is for male and mine is for female, which I got from this lucky draw during one of our Town Hall Meeting. Blw is a snap shot, nice eh?

Overall, though weekend time is precious, I'm glad I came!

Conversations with Other Women

Pondered by = Christine =

This movie is one of the very few movie I watched and asked, "Who is the director?". In a good way, of course.

It's compelling neither because of the script, not the actors/actresses. It's simply because the director, Hans Canosa, uses the old traditional way of filming - Split screens, which has existed since 1913.

A coin has two sides, just like how every story is. And split screens is just the perfect way to illustrate and definitely a rare gem in the filmmaking. Each characters is shot in their own slice of space, with occasional overlap and rare moments of union. It gives you the provocative visualization of the feelings that can't be expressed.

Those of you who can't multi-task, is not advisable to watch this movie, hehe!

Free Perfume Samples

Pondered by = Christine =

There seems to hv a rumour going around in Singapore. It may not be true but still it is good to know.

Seven women have died after inhaling a free perfume sample that was mailed to them. The product was poisonous. If you receive free samples in the mail such as lotions, perfumes, diapers etc. THROW THEM AWAY.

I can see someone shaking their head now but then again, some truth doesn't need to hit the news to be proven true, remember that!

One Rochester

Pondered by = Christine =

One Rochester, has become one of my fave place to hang out. A cozy alfresco hangout from a heritage two storey bungalow with a very well planned landscape with lush foliage and well planned water features that creates a very homely ambience. Being there made you forget that you are actually in Singapore!

Unfortunately, the food was just ordinary. I would prefer food at Villa Bali. Customer service was excellent though.

Overall, a must go place if anyone ever drop by in Singapore (how ironic - it doesn't give you the feel of Singapore!)

Red Sotong

Pondered by = Christine =

Have you ever do something really ridiculous but you are enjoying each and every bit and when it was over that you look at it again, you are shy to show it off?

Well, I had one today. And we made an episode out of it. Let her tell you the story.

A must see !!!!!!!

Instant Noodles

Pondered by = Christine =

A brief chat with some frens ended up some cooking tips here and there. One of them regards instant noodles health hazards which dates back to year 2000 but the rumour has existed for decades.

Turns out that the normal way I cook the noodles are wrong. I luv everything in one shot - boil the water, throw in the noodles, powders and other ingredients and voila! meal is done in minutes.

That is WRONG! I can see some of my "auntie" frens nodding fervently.

This is because the boiling water will change the structure of the MSG molecules, which turns it into toxic substances. Additionally, it takes 4-5 days for our body to get rid of the wax.

The correct method would be:

1. Boil the noodles first and throw away the water (which contains wax) once the noodles is done.
2. Cook the noodles again in fresh new boiling water and turn the fire off.

3. Only when the fire is off, throw in the powder.

Troublesome, eh? But my "auntie" frens insists that good health doesn't come easy. So, be it that you are a believer of the abv or not, there is no harm in trying.

For me, it's just another piece of additional info since I hv get rid of instant noodles out of my system for quite a while now.

Okay, okay, there is still that few times that I fail to resist the temptation, especially the Korean hot ones though, hehe!

ICE - In Case of Emergency

Pondered by = Christine =

I rcvd some forwarded emails regarding the fllwg and decided to check it out, although the idea itself sounds logical enough already.

=====================================================================================
The ICE (In Case of Emergency) program was founded by paramedic Bob Brotchie in May 2005 - a program that in case of emergency, when you are unconscious/unresponsive and provided that you mobile phone is with you, paramedics, firefighters, police officers can identify your closed ones or your next kin to let them know your status and obtain important medical info.

Thus, it's very important that you enter emergency contact persons in the fllwg format for ease of ref (The number in front of the word ICE keeps the ICE contacts at the top of your contact list):

1ICE - Mom
2ICE - Dad
3ICE - etc

On the other hand, with mobile phones so vulnerable to theft, loss and damage, putting ICE info may landed on the hands of strangers, who may hv ill purposes. But then again, if you really think about it, when your phone is unfortunately in the possession of a stranger, with or without ICE, he/she can just as easily locate the contacts of your Mom, Dad and your other closed ones too.

This inexpensive idea may one day save your life!

300

Pondered by = Christine =

It's a no brainer to say that guys will love the action but I hv to admit that the graphics are suprisingly crisp and clear!

Despite the movie is brutal and cruel - heads rolling on the ground, limbs flying in the air, blood painting the ground, you get the picture. It is one movie that leaves you in a dark and twisted fantasy.

Spartaaaaaaaannnnnnnnsssssssssss !!!!!

Be thankful

Pondered by = Christine =

While it is in our human nature to complain, this bunch of aunties takes the cake. You can hear them before you se them - whining about how much work each day has, how ridiculous who and who is, how slow the system has been, how sucky the coffee is, etc etc!

Life is not a bed of roses, it never has been! Everyone knows that and if you don't by now, listen! Shit happens. Reality bites. So bear with it. I had learn through painful events that everything happens for a reason. There is always a lesson for you to learn eventhough you scratch your head and shakes incessantly. And unless you learn them, life will repeat itself until you get it.

So, please start to be thankful of what you have and given. There is a reason for you to be where you are and what you are doing now. Life sucks if you want to look at it that way. So since we are gonna be around for a lil while, find that reason and be grateful!

Musci and Lyrics

Pondered by = Christine =

The opening scene is extremely hysterical and arguably the best - a music video of 80's top song "Pop Goes My heart" (how cheesy can that be !?!) Hugh Grant with big hair, hysterical dance moves, worse acting. One has to see in order to understand it.

Undoubtedly light movie with some amusing and laugh-out-loud moments. Though predictable script but Marc Lawrence has the right recipe for romantic comedy that creates quirky charisma.

Bubble bath!

Pondered by = Christine =

I don't understand the logic how a mass of hot water and some bubbles can relax you and made you feel paradise but it certainly did! Especially after a hard, long week ...

With the candles dancing to the occasional breeze and jazzy music humming in the air (blasting from the other side of the door, hehe), you wish time would standstill. Doesn't need to standstill forever, just for that moment so that it can be embedded into your mind and framed it in your heart.

Indeed, the best moments of my weekend!

Tutti Fruitti !

Pondered by = Christine =

Finally, a nite to party !!!

Work has been crazy. If you hv been catching up with the news in US, you should know business is getting tougher and tougher. It's a new season now and things has been very different this season.

But tonite, we all hv the right to drop and escape deadlines, not forever, but just one night - tonite. It's our Annual Lunar New Year Dinner and this year, the theme is Tutti Fruitti. I thought it would be a funky nite but with a glance across the room, we looked like some stabillo highlighters that are lost.

With Kumar as the comedian, all of us would think that there would be at least some guaranteed good laughs. It was bad enough that the audience was Yum Sheng-ing among themselves but what was worse was the even those who listened intently, didn't even smile - not even a tiny bit!

At the end of the day, all of these doesn't matters. Even when the office has its own politics (even in the seating arrangements!), for one nite, we drank away the stress. For one nite, we dance away the pressures.
